They say there are only two seasons in Whistler, the ski season and construction season!
Long time local company Corona Excavations hired Craig Barker Photography to plan and produce new commercial photography for marketing purposes, and I couldn't wait to jump in! Corona is all about getting the job done right the first time and providing a safe work place for employees. The shot list and style was created around this perception, which resulted in 6 on-location shoots, capturing the sites, machinery and employees.
It's important for Corona to be able to show the entire site in one photo. So having scouted the site locations, I decided to hire a drone and pilot for the largest site, which was the Ridge in Pemberton. The aerial photography captured at the Ridge was pivotal to communicating it's scale, not only of the site itself, but the scope of projects Corona can handle. The remaining 5 sites were shot using the panorama technique as I was able to produce higher resolution images with more detail, while still communicating the size of the site.
As you'd expect, a successful excavation company has many assets in the form of machinery, many of which provide competitive advantage in the marketplace. It's important for Corona to be able to show this to prospective clients since it supports the perception that they can tackle their new project.
People are always the most important part of any business, and even more so when it comes to creating a friendly and approachable perception. Therefore it was critical for me to show that employees know their craft, are safe and enjoy their work. My approach was more on the candid side, capturing employees in the zone, however the occasional pose was required to get the shot I wanted.
